A Glamorous Engagement

Second shooter at a Civil Ceremony @ Hilton Waldorf, London

Bride waits patiently outside the hotel...

Groom doing some last minute check on his look...

Taking them for a walk around London for couple shots...

Purposely told the bride to stand by this door whilst she waited for the groom to finish his shoot. Positioning for the moment when she glances over to him and took the shot...

Sally Dixey

"This is my passion, this is my way of life."

Young and hard working Sally Dixey invited me to a fitness studio in Notting Hill as she is preparing to further her career as a personal trainer. Energetic and full of enthusiasm, Sally demonstrated some of the exercise routines she carries out to her client - I thought I had a go myself, although after 5 minutes I thought putting down the Kettlebells would be a great idea before injuring my trusted camera arm.

Kettle what? you say...

"Kettlebells did start out as a cast iron kettle. This kettle was filled with sand, or whatever else was at hand, and then used as a strength training tool in Scotland over 2,000 years ago. Many believe that this tool was also incorporated into games testing strength, similar to those used in the highland games today. Over time the kettles due to their sharp edges and spout were replaced by other similar looking weights, cannon balls were probably used and thus evolved and developed into the training tool that we see today."

“The best female Kettlebell instructor in London”
Shamin Cortez, The Grove Magazine, June 2009

So I ask the question "What makes you stand out from the crowd?"

"I have a strong belief that exercise and wellbeing is one of the most important changes a person can make to their life, that undoubtedly will have the most profound effect on all aspects of a person’s life. It is although the one thing that we often neglect! I hear many reasons as to why it’s the last priority and the most common reason I hear is time management.

I have worked within the fitness industry for over 7 years and have been a trainer for the last 4. I have seen many different people from across London and I believe my diversity and personality alongside my qualifications make training with me something to look forward to. My belief that exercise should be fun plays a big part in every session I deliver but always with the main goal in sight.

Personal Training is more than just exercise. It’s about energy, confidence, improvement and achievement. This is my passion, this is my way of life."

Sunday Stroll

Just a few pictures from a Sunday afternoon stroll down Queen's Walk in South Bank, London. A nice way to wind down with a few friends and a relative after two wedding shoots the previous day...

Time to chill out this week before a massive weekend with 3 wedding shoots in 2 days! Amazing locations too, pictures will be up next week.

Hasselblad

So what's the big deal with this camera.

In the UK it costs £9,995+ VAT just for the body. It's not the sexiest thing to carry around, and the name is half of the Hoff! Well, the price is in the quality of the picture. The sharpness, contrast and detail is just sick...

So I had a go on this "overpriced" camera at the Digital Photo & Imaging Show (DPI Show) in Business Design Centre, London - waiting patiently the Hasselblad Representative tried to persuade me that this camera is worth investing on. "Just wait and see the result" he says....

Yeah right...

OK, OK I felt like the guy who Matt Damon said "How do you like them apples" to in Good Will Hunting - I ate my own words and prayed for the day I'd win the lottery so I can afford one of these bad boys. Look at the details!...

Zoom towards the eyes... Check out how sharp that is!

Still unimpressed? Well it's hard to explain. It's like owning an Atari and you just had a go at your friend's Playstation 3, or playing in front of 90,000 people in Wembley when you usually play in non-league football. It certainly was an experience. Below are more pictures I took...

So the question is... Would you spend £10,000 on a camera? Answers on a postcard please...

Messin Up The Weekend.

Fridge, Brixton opened up their venue to live music for the first time in 15 years with Suzerain as the headline.

This was a last minute invite from FeedMeMusic to shoot a special night for both the venue and the organisers. Pretty exciting stuff to welcome back great live acts through their doors with new lighting and sound system as they try to work alongside the other iconic venue, O2 Academy Brixton.

Stealing Green played in Astoria 2 when the last time I shot a Messin Up The Weekend gig and it has been a long time since I did some stuff with them, to be honest I'm glad to be back into the scene as I've always enjoyed the bands they put on.

The headline band Suzerain have been around for a couple of years, including playing a part at the O2 Wireless Festival and headlined to over 2000 people at the Angra Rock Festival in Azores - later on in July 2009 they will be in Roma Rock and Bocadillo in Italy. They've also picked up an Indy Award for Best UK Alternative Act in 2007.

"Suzerain" were the chants from the crowd as Tom (Vocals), Richard (Guitar), Mike (Bass), Matt (Keys/Cello) and Ben Howe (Drums) played an amazing set for their followers, quite a number of them too. After a dodgy late meal plus a long underground journey, I backed up the photos I shot whilst listening to the acoustic version of Life on Film on their Myspace page....mesmerising!

Credit also to the support acts Capelle, Harrison Hope, Harry Lee and My Preserver. Click on their title and visit their individual Myspace page.

Duck and Cover

Duck and Cover, a mens urban clothing line, have appointed DwikoArie as one of their Brand Ambassadors.

Found in 1996, the brand name was an inspiration from the 1950's government information film advising people on what to do in the event of a nuclear attack. Their first range was casual with a sporty influence and by 1999 the collection evolved into a distinctive denim collection.

Duck and Cover came across my blog through the event shoot I did, when Speech Debelle performed in Size Store for the launch of Trainer Spotter T shirts. They invited me to view their warehouse in East London as they think the brand would compliment me when I do my music or event photography.

I tried a few shirts and their denim line, I have to say they were comfortable and fitted me LIKE A GLOVE! Their jeans focused on functionality and comfort, which suited me as I am not a big fan of skinny jeans (although I wore my one and only skinny jeans when I visited their office). They gave me a preview of their Autumn/Winter collection too, truly impressed by the brand overall.

You can find their current stuff in House of Fraser, located in Westfield London, Oxford Street, Bluewater and Lakeside Shopping Centre. Tito Jeans Centre in Camden also stock a few of their stuff along with the online shops such as Designerwear, Guru Menswear and Asos. Click here to find your nearest stockist.

I'm off to shoot the launch night of Messin Up The Weekend in Fridge, Brixton tonight.
